Sock Monkey

October 22, 2012

A friend of mine sent me this link to a tumblr he and his wife have been putting together. It’s cute and funny and I can see that one day it may make a fine children’s book. They’ve just had their first child so there may be a slight pause in regular updates for the time being.

Sadly however, when I read through the posts, the one question that went through my mind was, ‘Why is the critter called “sock” monkey?’ I sent the below fan art to my friend encapsulating my suggested answer. I’ve not heard from him since…

John Christie, Detective

October 12, 2012

Some time ago, I’d heard that he was laid to rest in the Box Hill Cemetery and so I made the pilgrimage out there. I can’t say why, exactly, except for perhaps having become fascinated by the life that he had led this was as close as I’d ever come to actually coming in contact with the man. As you can see, the grave stands out from those around it, obviously in an effort to commemorate a lifetime of achievements. The thing that really struck me was that there was no mention of family. It seemed a little sad.

Sketchbook 2

October 01, 2012

This one started as a doodle in front of the TV and then grew into something far more finished. A bit of an homage to my early teens…

Sketchbook 1

September 23, 2012

I’ve been trying to adopt the process of doing warm-up sketches before moving on to the projects that I’m working on. The idea being that it’s a quick, finished drawing to get the creative juices flowing. It’s sort of working. Sort of, because I’ve tended to spend far too long in working up the drawing to something finished. It’s all good I suppose, it’s just that they aren’t coming as quickly as I hoped. Here’s the first and it was actually short and quick.

Long time coming…

May 21, 2012

A small note, partly as I’ve written a much longer one at the end of the chapter, to let you know that the second chapter of Office Zombie is finally here. In the interests of continually challenging myself and (hopefully) improving, the second chapter is in gruesome full colour.

The opening page is actually an animated gif., if it doesn’t play copy the link – http://comics.cristianroux.com/officezombie/Office-Zombie-Start.html – and post it into the address bar of your browser as it seems to work fine then. It’s only a short animation but it was quite considered and I did have fun putting it together, trying a few different variations until I nailed the one that was after.

If I typed something like, I’m going to have a short break now while I work on the next project, I’m sure it would come as a great surprise as my creatively productive breaks seem to be anything but, ‘short’ – apologies there. But, I am going to be taking some time to polish concepts for the next work which will be longer. I’ll do my best to upload interim posts of interest to keep the site alive and beating.

Thanks for reading – hope you enjoy!

Zocks!
